What are some ways you have cut corners in order to save on expenses this past year?

This question is mainly for those of you running households, that financially needed to curb expenditures this past year. How much have you saved? What advice would you offer others?
I have a household of 6 from ages 13 and up. We had stopped using hot water in the washing machine, limited showers of all family members. We purchased some home workout equipment of our own and didn’t renew our athletic club memberships. In doing so we save about $300. a month. I haven’t yet reverted back to coupons yet but am looking at that as my next option.
Reducing food expenses is pretty easy. Buy in bulk at warehouse stores. Using coupons is always a good idea. Instead of buy brand name products buy a cheaper alternative. Most times they taste pretty much the same. If you eat out don’t eat out as much. If you have a high end TV cable plan you can reduce it to the one of the lower tier plans.
You can also go to google or bing and type in the phrase "How to save money at home?"
